Zuheros information

Zuheros is a beautiful town of Córdoba region, in Andalucia. Historians think that the first settlement in this location was on the 9th century, when the soldiers of Banu Himsi, a muslim leader, built a castle on the rocks.  Rocks where called “sujaira” which means “unassailable rocks” and this could have been the origin of the name of the town.  The locality originally belonged to the cora, a territorial division, of Elvira (Granada), and was fortified at the end of the 12th century. In 1240, the area was conquered by Fernando III, who appointed a lord over the castle in order to strengthen the defences along the border with the Nazarí Kingdom of Granada.

Nowadays most of the population of Zuheros work on agriculture, olive trees mainly and also cattle farming.
