Badolatosa Information
The town name of Badolatosa , in Sevilla region, came from the Latin voice Vadus latus (wide ford) placed near Estepa through which Caesar crossed the river after the battle of Munda against Pompey. It seems that it could also come from the voice "Badolatonsa" (Wet Back), from the time of the Arab domination of the peninsula. In this time the town was an orchard, whose produce was used for the maintenance of the surrounding towns. Towards the end of the 1500s the town began to grow around the Church, always placed in the centre of the town. After the Muslim era, Christian King Felipe II gave the town to the Marquis of Estepa.

At the beginning of the eighteenth century there was in this town as in many other places in Andalusia a phenomenon quite common at that time, el Bandolerismo. A neighbour of the town was one of the most famous bandoleros of that time, his name was José Ruiz Permana, nicknamed "germán". Along with José Mª Hinojosa "El Tempranillo", Juan Caballero and José Ruiz Permana, were the most famous bandoleros of those years. On July 23rd 1832 and through mediation before his Majesty Ferdinand VII a royal pardon was granted to the three bandoleros and their groups (called “partidas”) in the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Fuensanta of Corcoya.
