The interest for the control of the water is in the origin of Fuente Alamo, in Jaén Province. The name of the village is due to it, Fuente Alamo which means “poplar fountain” as the manantial was surrounded by loads of poplars. The orography of the terrain, on the slope of a hill that dominates the depression towards La Rábita, has conditioned the layout of the streets that are articulated from a square and a main street. Among its buildings include the chapel dedicated to San Antonio, S. XVIII, the Cortijo de la Torre with its Muslim watchtower, the remains of the Baths of the Ardales, with waters of high healing power and the archaeological remains of the Roman villa of Fuente Alamo.
