Zagra Information
Near the town of Zagra, we can find a few “dolmen” , Neolithic graves, from which we can be assured that a Neolithic settlement was established in this location.
During the Arab era, the territory of Loja was a political-administrative division of the Nazarí Kingdom of Granada which included Zagra, Algarinejo, Loja, Huétor Tajar and Salar.
After the Christian conquest, the castle was given to a Castilian leader who tried, in vain, to rule the town. Instead, the territory was divided and given to Castilian settlers who came from the north of Spain.
For centuries, before and after its conquest by the Catholic Monarchs, the town was part of the municipality of Loja. In 1982, Zagra finally achieved its independence.
